Lieu is only candidate in CD33 race to receive 'Strong Support' rating

Los Angeles - The Ted Lieu for Congress campaign received the highest rating a candidate can receive from Democrats for Israel today. The Los Angeles based organization, which prides itself on being the voice of the Southern California Jewish and Pro-Israel community to the Democratic Party, was impressed by Senator Lieu’s advocacy and record of leadership.

"Congressman Waxman's departure has left some big shoes to fill for the Jewish community. Sen. 

Lieu was an advocate for Israel in the state legislature as a co-sponsor of bills divesting state pension funds from companies doing business with Iran's energy industry that became a national model for other states. He doesn't just talk about being Pro-Israel and working with the Jewish community, he follows through with action, and I know he'll take that advocacy for our community to Washington," said Howard Welinsky, Chairman of Democrats for Israel Los Angeles. 

“I am honored to receive the highest recommendation Democrats for Israel can give to a candidate.  Ensuring the security of Israel is a critical priority for me in both words and action, which is why I was a sponsor of state laws to divest pensions funds from Iran's energy and defense industries, and to ban those who do business with Iran from contracting with the state,” said CD 33 Candidate Ted Lieu.  "Visiting Israel had a profound effect on me, and that experience will follow me to Congress where I will stand with Israel and do all I can to ensure that Iran never gets its hands on a nuclear weapon."
 
Senator Ted Lieu was the only candidate in the race for CD 33 to receive the highest rating from the Democrats for Israel: “Strong Support”.  The Democrats for Israel grade candidates on a scale of Strongly Support, Support, Neutral and Unacceptable.

“Strongly support" grades are reserved only for those individuals with an exceptional and extraordinary history of fighting for the issues that Democrats for Israel fight for every day. The group thanked Senator Lieu for being such a strong advocate for the pro-Israel community both domestically and abroad.

State Senator Ted Lieu's district comprises more than 80 percent of the voters in CD 33.  Lieu is a long-time resident of the district, an Air Force veteran and has served time on the Torrance City Council, State Assembly and Senate.
