November 18, 2014 -- U.S. Representative-Elect Ted Lieu (D-CA) has been elected President of the Democratic Freshman Class of the 114th Congress.

"I am deeply honored to be elected by my colleagues as Class President, and look forward to working with this incredibly diverse and talented Democratic Freshman Class to tackle the important issues facing our nation.  We will seek areas of cooperation with our colleagues across the aisle and also fight to protect and advance our core Democratic values.

There are 20 members of the Democratic Freshman Class (two of whom were elected in 2013).

Congressmember-Elect Ted Lieu will succeed the legendary Congressmember Henry Waxman in California’s 33rd Congressional District in Southern California.

Before being elected to Congress, Lieu’s public service included serving on active duty in the United States Air Force, and later as a member of the Torrance City Council, State Assembly and State Senate.  He remains in the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.
