Paramount endorsement awarded today in the race to succeed Rep. Waxman

LOS ANGELES - As democrats from around the state descended on the Los Angeles Convention Center for the yearly state convention, Senator Ted Lieu was officially awarded today the coveted endorsement of the California Democratic Party in the race for California's 33rd Congressional District.

"I am deeply honored to be the official candidate of the California Democratic Party," said Lieu. "The endorsement of the California Democratic Party is extremely important in this race and I am proud to have the support of so many grass-roots activists in the district and around the state."

The endorsement of the California Democratic Party joins an expanding list of over 80 federal, state and local elected officials and organizations.

Teeing up today's vote, Lieu received a dominating 73.7% of the vote from local democratic activists in February, with his nearest opponent receiving only 8.7%.

Senator Lieu's current district comprises more than 80 percent of the voters in CD 33.  Lieu is a long-time resident of the district, an Air Force veteran and has served time on the Torrance City Council, State Assembly, and the State Senate.
