More than 25 Elected Officials show early support for Lieu
LOS ANGELES – State Senator Ted Lieu, whose state Senate district comprises more than 80 percent of the voters in the 33rd Congressional District, today announced he will run for Congress to succeed longtime Rep. Henry Waxman.
“Congressmember Henry Waxman is a living legend. Our nation owes a profound debt of gratitude for his remarkable leadership on issues ranging from the environment to foreign policy to health care," Lieu said.
Lieu, an immigrant, continued: "I am running because I love America. But our nation can do better. I have made the hard choices that helped turn California's budget deficit into a budget surplus; fought to protect our environment; co-authored legislation to divest California's pension funds from Iran's energy and nuclear industries; and authored landmark civil rights legislation. I will fight hard for my constituents in Congress as I have done in the state Senate."

Judy Mitchell, the mayor of Rolling Hills Estates and a board member on the South Coast Air Quality Management District, had this to say about Lieu: “Ted Lieu is not only the best candidate, but if anyone can break through the partisan bickering and brinksmanship in Congress Ted certainly has the best chance."
In less than 24 hours Lieu has already garnered significant support. Lieu, a long-time resident of the district, is an Air Force veteran. He has served on the Torrance City Council, State Assembly and the California State Senate.
The 33rd Congressional District stretches from the Palos Verdes Peninsula to Malibu along the Los Angeles County coast.
