Sierra Club Endorses Ted Lieu for Congress
Lieu is running for CD 33
Ted Lieu’s campaign for Congress today announced the endorsement of the Sierra Club, one of the most prominent environmental organizations in the country. Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization -- with more than two million members and supporters.
“State Senator Ted Lieu received our highest rating in 2013 for his leadership in the Legislature on issues that advance renewable energy, protect our coastline, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We need his vision for California’s environment in Congress, and strongly support his candidacy,” said Kathryn Phillips, Director of Sierra Club California.
“Climate change is the single greatest threat to our state’s and our nation's future,” said Lieu. “We must strengthen environmental policies regionally, statewide and across the country. I am honored to receive the Sierra Club’s support.”
State Senator Ted Lieu is running for Congress to succeed environmental champion Henry Waxman, who has endorsed Lieu. Other environmental organizations including the California League of Conservation Voters also have endorsed Lieu.
State Senator Ted Lieu's district comprises more than 80 percent of the voters in CD 33. Lieu is a long-time resident of the district, an Air Force veteran and has served time on the Torrance City Council, State Assembly and State Senate.
