Ted Lieu picks up support from former LA Mayor Richard Riordan

By Alice Walton

Former L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan supported Wendy Greuel for mayor in 2013, going so far as to join the campaign as a senior advisor. But that support hasn't extended to Greuel's congressional race.

On Monday, Riordan officially endorsed state Sen. Ted Lieu for the Westside congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Henry Waxman.

"I strongly endorse Ted Lieu for Congress because Ted is a problem solver.  He is smart, tenacious and effective," Riordan said in a statement from the Lieu campaign.

"Ted has worked across the aisle with legislators and the executive branch for many years and made the tough choices that helped turn California's budget deficit into a budget surplus.  Ted will be an outstanding member of Congress and I am honored to endorse him."

The Greuel campaign declined to comment on the endorsement. Just a year ago, Greuel told reporters that if she were elected mayor, Riordan would be her first hire in City Hall. (Riordan endorsed Republican Kevin James in the mayoral primary.

There are a total of 25 candidates running for Waxman's seat.
